On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the South Harrison Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees gathered at Corydon Central Junior High School to discuss key educational and operational matters. Below are the highlights from the meeting:
Special Presentations & Recognitions
Corydon Central Junior High School - Principal Jason Toler provided an update on student achievements, including academic milestones, job exploration activities, and successful adaptation to a new school schedule. A major highlight was a presentation by Mrs. Wiseman's 7th and 8th grade Honors Language Arts students. They shared their quarterly service-learning projects, which connect classroom learning with real-world experiences. Student projects explored generational connections and modern rites of passage.
Mr. Toler also discussed the success of the junior high’s flex schedule, which gives students below or at grade level additional daily support. As a result, Corydon Central Junior High now ranks third in iLearn scores among Southern Indiana schools.
Corydon Central High School Student Council - Despite being virtual due to sports commitments, the CCHS Student Council shared impressive news. They highlighted fall sports achievements and noted that 50 students are participating in internships this year. The CCR Center continues to organize field trips for underclassmen to explore career opportunities.
Congratulations to Emma Rowland for advancing to IHSAA Girls Golf State Finals!
South Central Jr./Sr. High School Student Council - Virtually presenting, South Central’s council representative gave exciting updates on government class visits by the Harrison County Clerk, blood donation goals, and senior college application efforts. Additionally, 26 seniors are receiving help from the CCR Center for college applications.
Superintendent Dr. Eastridge - Dr. Eastridge shared that SHCSC has seen an increase of 48 students this year, emphasizing efforts to maintain small class sizes. He addressed school safety concerns and encouraged the community to report threats directly to school officials or the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department for prompt investigation. Police Chief Brad Rothrock echoed these sentiments.
George Link, VPS Architecture - Mr. Link provided an update on construction bids and progress. With upcoming breaks, additional crews will work to make substantial headway while students are out of the buildings.
