Career speakers have returned for the 2022-2023 school year! In September the 8th graders had four career speakers: Kasia Heikes (Human Resource Manager), Rebecca Wilkins (Purdue Extension Educator), Scott Dickenson (Chef), and Nichole King (Nurse Practitioner). Below is a little information about their careers.
Human Resource Manager - This career deals with hiring, firing, paychecks, insurance, and working through employee relations on multiple fronts. This career usually requires a Bachelor's degree in human resources or business. It would be a good career fit for someone who enjoys helping others and wants to see a business succeed.
Purdue Extension Educator - People in this career travel to different cities promoting agricultural education. They may work with farmers, 4H, schools, etc. This career usually requires a Master's degree in agriculture or education. People in this career are social and passionate about agriculture, food, and natural resources.
Chef - Chefs create a wide variety of food, can work for an already known restaurant, or run their own business. Typical training includes hands on restaurant experience and/or culinary school. Chefs are usually creative, enjoy making others happy with food, and have good organization and time management skills.
Nurse Practitioner - Nurse Practitioners are often seen as the level between a nurse and general physician (medical doctor). They see patients who are sick, need annual check-ups, need rehab/therapy, etc. This career requires a Master's and/or Doctoral degree. In this career you should enjoy helping others, be good at science, math, and communication, and be empathetic.
