Career speakers have returned for the 2022-2023 school year! In November, the 8th graders had four career speakers: Maurice Terry (heavy equipment operator), Tony Edwards (pilot), Molly Howard (ASL interpreter), and Caitlin Pedigo (hair stylist). Below is a little information about their careers.
Heavy Equipment Operator - This career involves working on construction sites moving around various materials. This career usually requires on-the-job training. It would be a good career fit for someone who likes being outdoors, building and fix things, is aware of their surroundings, and can do math.
Pilot - Pilots fly planes carrying people or cargo to different locations. This career requires a Bachelor's degree and numerous flight hours. Someone interested in this career needs to be dependable, calm under pressure, pays attention to detail, and enjoy traveling.
ASL Interpreter - An American Sign Language Interpreter is someone who uses ASL to help deaf or hard of hearing individuals communicate with others. A Bachelor's degree is required for this career. Someone in this career would need to be fluent in both English and ASL, good at communicating, empathetic, and can work well with a variety of people.
Hair Stylist - This career involves cutting, coloring, and styling hair. Someone in this career needs to attain a beauty trade school and earn a certificate. This would be a good career fit for someone who is organized, creative, works well with others, and pays attention to detail.
