The 4th and 5th grade HWES students have something to look forward to each Friday, other than it being the end of the school week! Students in Ms. Mortensen's and Ms. Ida's classes are working collaboratively on STEAM Challenges that are a part of the Science Cart on loan via a grant from the Kentucky Science Center. HWES is one of four schools to ever receive this grant and only one of two schools in Indiana to receive this awesome opportunity this year! Students work on various challenges weekly with minimal instruction, which can be a challenge for student and teacher alike. Through discovery, trial and error, and collaboration, students are learning to work across grade levels to complete specific challenges, such as the initial challenge of making a balloon hover in air. Students and teachers look forward to this opportunities that the STEAM cart offers and will continue to work through the materials through September of next school year!
