Have you ever wondered what happens to unopened school breakfast and lunch portions? We like to call them Share Table Portions.
What are Share Table portions?
- Any unopened portions of food (bagged fruits and vegetables, milk, yogurt, etc.) from school breakfast or lunch can be placed on the Share Table.
- All portions are checked for quality on a daily basis.
- Share Table portions are intended for students only.
- All portions are FREE!
Daily portions are available to students during their meals times and any portions remaining at the end of the day are relocated to the Share Table Fridge in Mrs. Milliner's room. The portions provide extra servings for students in addition to breakfast and lunch. Portions are also used in the classrooms to for student snacks. Any portions remaining at the end of the week are donated to services that directly benefit kids in our community. We currently incorporate Share Table portions into our backpack buddies program and/or deliver to local families in need.
The Share Table allows us to reduce food waste and help address food insecurity for Harrison County Youth.
