Our friend Oliver is in Mrs. Boman's class. August 21st is DYRK1A awareness day! At two years old he was #239 to be diagnosed with DYRK1A in the world. Now he is 7 and we just reached 700! Orange is the official DYRK1A color. Mrs. Boman's class celebrated this special day with Oliver by wearing orange. Facts about DYRK1A can be found in the photos along with the picture from his class! Next year, we may need to celebrate school-wide!

Mrs. Goller's 3rd grade class participated in "Dress like Marisol"Day. Marisol is the main character in the book they are reading. Marisol liked to wear mismatched clothes from head to toe!

Mrs. Donoho's 3rd grade class loved learning about arrays with cheez-its! What a fun way to learn!

Corydon Elementary Community Events
CES is ready to welcome the community back into the school for some fun family events. It is difficult to accommodate due to our size, but we have found a way to include our families and make some memories for our students and their special people.
FRIDAYS ONLY - BY RESERVATION ONLY - Families can schedule to have lunch with his/her child. We will now schedule for the month of September. We have 3 tables available for reservations. You can make a reservation by calling 812-738-4183 and speaking to Susan. She will add you to the calendar to hold your spot. She will need you to provide your child’s name and grade. You must provide your name to verify you have a background check on file.
You cannot combine school-age siblings into one lunch time. Each student must go to lunch at their scheduled lunch time. Non-school age children can come, but must be supervised at all times. Outside food may be brought in by the family, if you choose. However, NO SOFT DRINKS are allowed. There will be a trash can and cleaner for you to wipe down your table when you are finished. This will help us to be ready for the next lunch group of families coming in.
Upon your arrival, you will sign in with Susan. Then, you can choose a table in the lobby. Your student will be sent down to you. Lunch time is 30 minutes. We will put a schedule on or near each table.

Our picture day will be here soon!

When completing a background check to volunteer, you will need to do this from a computer. It will not allow you to complete the background check from a phone, but you will need your phone to complete the process. I hope this makes sense. Background checks are good for 5 years. Thank you!

DON'T FORGET! Tomorrow, Friday, August 4 is an early release day. Please make the necessary transportation arrangements & notify your school office early!

Starting with the 2023-2024 school year, students will be allowed up to 3 excused absences for the school year when a parent calls in to report the absence.
The parent or guardian must call the school office on the day of the absence. Phone calls made the following day will not result in an excused absence. We encourage parents to use these days when their child must be absent, but a doctor's appointment isn't necessary.

Welcome back! We are excited to welcome everyone to Open House tonight. You can meet your teacher and drop off school supplies.
PK-1 4:00 - 5:30
Grades 2-3 5:30 - 7:00
Please note that the classrooms in grades 2 and 3 will not be open until 5:30. Please respect our request to not go to those classrooms until 5:30. Grade 2 and 3 teachers are not required to be here until 5:30. Some may be prepping rooms, but not ready for visitors. They will open classroom doors at 5:30 to welcome you. There will be maps, school supply lists, as well as some tables with resources for families located in our lobby. We can't wait to see everyone this evening! Thank you so much for joining our CES family!

This is a reminder that the 3rd annual Duck Duck Derby is this Saturday at 10:30 am at Hayswood Park. They will launch over 5,000 ducks from the bridge at 11 am. They will have FREE hot dogs, popcorn, popsicles, games and face painting. It should be a great family event and we would like to invite everyone to join us. Hope to see you there!

CES is in the process of planning field day. If you have a background check on file and would like to volunteer, we are accepting up to 32 volunteers. Field Day is Wednesday, May 24th. The volunteer hours are 8:00-2:30. You would be helping to set up stations, supervise stations, and take down stations. We will have staff that can give breaks and let you have a 30 min lunch. If you are interested in volunteering, please call the school at 812-738-4183. The staff will verify you have a background check on file and add you to the list. We are only taking the first 32! Thank you in advance!

This is just a reminder that while warmer weather is coming and kids want to go out to play, please keep a close eye on them. Whether at a park or even a local store, talk to them about stranger danger. Explain that they are to never go with anyone that they do not know. Watch them closely. There have been reports of people with ill intentions toward children within our area. We need to be aware that it can happen anywhere.
